David A. Sussman Named Duane Morris Newark Office Managing Partner

NEWARK, NJ—Duane Morris LLP has appointed David A. Sussman managing partner of its Newark, New Jersey, office. Sussman succeeds Greg Haworth, who served in that role since 2017, and will be maintaining his practice with the firm.

Sussman practices in the area of corporate law with a focus on private equity and tax. Additionally, Sussman chairs the firm’s Private Investment Funds Group and serves as a team lead for the Duane Morris Private Equity Industry Group. He also is a member of the firm’s governing Partners Board.

Sussman’s private equity experience includes representing sponsors in connection with launching investment funds, including private equity, hedge, real estate and venture capital funds. He regularly advises funds in connection with their operations, including negotiating with investors and the acquisition and disposition of the funds’ investments.

Sussman also regularly advises private equity funds in connection with the U.S. federal income tax planning for their acquisitions and dispositions of portfolio investments. Specifically, he works with private equity funds on corporate and partnership tax planning, including sophisticated tax planning to minimize U.S. federal taxes for the fund’s investors when buying and selling private companies. He also works with nationally recognized real estate firms in connection with their real estate projects, including negotiating joint ventures with institutional investors and providing U.S. federal income tax advice for their operations and projects.
