DALLAS, TX—The Dallas Bar Association is proud to that the Honorable Barbara M.G. Lynn, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, is the inaugural recipient of the Dallas Bar Association’s Jurist of the Year Award. Going forward, the Award will be known as the Barbara M.G. Lynn Jurist of the Year Award.
The award was established by the Dallas Bar Association to honor judges who make significant contributions to the legal community in the North Texas area and demonstrate high ideals, exemplary personal character, and judicial competence.
Lynn is currently the Chief United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Judge Lynn practiced with the law firm Carrington Coleman from 1976 to 1999. She was the firm’s first female associate (1976–1982) and then the firm’s first female partner (1983–1999) before her judicial tenure. On March 25, 1999, Lynn was nominated by President Bill Clinton to replace a seat vacated by Harold Barefoot Sanders, Jr. in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
