The IBF’s mission is to ensure meaningful access to the justice system, especially for those with limited means and to assist lawyers and their families who can no longer support themselves due to incapacity. In addition, the IBF administers the Illinois JusticeCorps program which provides navigational and procedural guidance inside courthouses across the State. This year, the IBF will distribute more than $880,000 in funds to promote access to justice and help support lawyers in need.
Cox practices primarily in criminal defense, administrative proceedings, wills, estates, and probate. He has been recognized as a “Leading Lawyer” since 2010 and is a Past President of the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Cox is a Bronze Fellow of the IBF and currently holds a seat on the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) Board of Governors. In addition to serving on the ISBA Board, Cox is the current Chair of the Solo and Small Firm Practice Institute Committee and former Chair of the Standing Committee on Continuing Legal Education and Traffic Laws and Courts Section Council.
Outside of serving on the IBF’s Board of Directors, Cox is an active member of the Springfield community. He is the Immediate Past President of the Sangamo Club and former President of the Lincoln Library Foundation. Additionally, he served as the Legal Advisor for the Springfield Air Rendezvous from 1998–2007.
Cox received a B.A. from Knox College in 1988 and a J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1991.
