BIRMINGHAM, AL—Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Jack Sharman will serve as special counsel to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office in an investigation by the Fulton County District Attorney into certain activities in the state by former President Donald Trump during the 2020 election. Sharman’s appointment is through an executive order signed April 28 by Governor Brian Kemp.

The investigation is currently focused on a call between then-President Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Mr. Trump urged Raffensperger to investigate alleged fraud that would overturn Georgia’s presidential election results.

Throughout his decades in practice, Sharman has frequently served as special counsel in sensitive investigations of government officials and agencies. Most recently, Sharman and fellow Lightfoot attorney Liz Huntley assisted the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council in its review of law enforcement response to protests in Huntsville last summer. They issued their report on April 22.

Sharman is chair of the firm’s White-Collar Criminal Defense & Corporate Investigations Practice Group.

Joining Sharman on the team for this matter are partner Brandon Essig and associates Jay Sewell and Amaobi Enyinnia.
