HOUSTON, TX—Jennifer Caughey, chair of Jackson Walker LLP’s appellate section, was appointed to the Texas Judicial Council by Gov. Greg Abbott on Nov. 10.
The council studies the court system in Texas and looks for methods to improve while also investigating and reporting on court system matters referred to the council. Ms. Caughey’s term would expire June 30, 2027.
Ms. Caughey, a partner in Jackson Walker’s Houston office, previously served as a Justice on Texas’ First Court of Appeals in Houston. At Jackson Walker, she represents clients in complex matters in state and federal courts. She handles high-stakes commercial litigation, with a focus on appeals. She has particular expertise in issues involving statutory and contractual interpretation, constitutional law, healthcare, insurance, energy, administrative law, and professional liability.
She has represented clients in major matters across Texas, including at the Texas Supreme Court, in various Texas Courts of Appeals, and in trial courts. Her federal practice is equally notable with her experience handling appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First, Fifth, Sixth, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits, as well as matters in federal district courts and at the U.S. Supreme Court.
