SAN DIEGO, CA—The personal injury law firm Carpenter & Zuckerman (CZ Law) today filed a lawsuit seeking a trial by jury against Polaris Industries, Inc., Polaris Sales, Inc., Cycle Visions Motorcycles, LLC and Does 1-100 for a total of seven causes of action.
CZ Law’s clients, Tamika Hunter and Everett Johnson (married), sustained serious injuries while riding in a 2020 Polaris Slingshot three-wheeled motorcycle in June 2021. Hunter and Johnson were the respective driver and passenger of the Slingshot, driving northbound on I-15 at a reasonable speed when the Slingshot spontaneously caught fire, injuring them both.
Polaris, the company in charge of designing, testing, manufacturing, distributing and recalling the Slingshots had 78 complaints, 34 recalls and six investigations from 2015 through 2020 regarding the Slingshot model which Hunter and Johnson sustained injuries from. Polaris knew of its Slingshot’s various fire hazards at the time in which the 2020 model was designed and manufactured. Despite this knowledge, Polaris continued the production of its Slingshots in a way it knew or reasonably should have known could fail, ignite and cause injury.
