Katten Announces Nine Partner Promotions

Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP announced today that nine new partners in key practice areas have been elected by the firm’s Executive Committee.

Brett T. Fox, Commercial Finance, Washington, DC

Fox represents senior secured, first lien, second lien and mezzanine lenders, as well as lead arrangers, administrative agents, borrowers and private equity sponsors in a range of commercial finance deals. His practice encompasses a variety of financing transactions, including leveraged buyout transactions, cash flow and asset-based transactions, unitranche, first-out-last-out and one-stop financings, cross-border financings, health care financings, franchise financings, and sports team financings. Brett’s practice covers a broad range of deal sizes, from single bank financings for small companies to broadly syndicated credit facilities in the upper-middle market and large-cap equity sponsors. His experience includes a wide platform of industries, including sports, franchise, media and technology, software, health care, and manufacturing.

Prachi S. Gokhale, Structured Finance and Securitization, New York

Prachi Gokhale represents various participants in the structured finance market, including issuers, underwriters, lenders, borrowers and government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) in corporate and capital market transactions. She has worked on a variety of transactions, including asset-backed and mortgage-backed securities offerings (with an emphasis on automobile loan, automobile lease and mortgage loan securitizations), warehouse financing programs, revolving credit facilities and term loans. Her mortgage loan experience includes real estate mortgage investment conduit (REMIC) and risk sharing trust structures collateralized by performing, reperforming and nonperforming loans. Prachi has experience with both public and private transactions in the United States.

Jerry L. Hall, Insolvency and Restructuring, New York

Hall advises parties nationally in significant bankruptcy, restructuring and litigation matters. His clients span diverse industries, including real estate, retail, manufacturing, gaming and hospitality, aviation, life sciences, telecommunications and finance. With 21 years of experience in bankruptcy cases and related litigation, Jerry represents secured lenders, indenture trustees, debtors-in-possession, committees, distressed debt investors, lessors and troubled companies in and out of court.

Thomas Huang, Commercial Finance, New York

Huang concentrates his practice in commercial finance matters. Prior to joining the firm, Thomas was Assistant Counsel at the New York City Comptroller’s Office, where he represented the Comptroller’s Office and New York City’s public employee pension plans in pension investments in various asset classes, including private equity, real estate and hedge funds. He performed due diligence, negotiated transaction terms and structures, and drafted and reviewed investment management contracts, side letters and requests for proposals in connection with public and private market investments.

David Luger, Litigation, Chicago

Luger concentrates his practice on complex litigation, arbitration, enforcement proceedings, internal investigations, regulatory actions and other disputes related to the financial services sector. He has represented clients before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and other regulatory bodies. David also has significant experience litigating complex commercial cases. He has represented clients in the pharmaceutical, technology, industrial supply and transportation industries in state and federal courts around the country.

Paul T. Musser, Insolvency and Restructuring, Chicago

Musser concentrates his practice in the areas of insolvency, corporate restructuring, bankruptcy and loan workouts. He regularly represents financial institutions and secured lenders as well as unsecured creditors, landlords, purchasers, receivers, trustees and debtors in bankruptcies, receivership and fraudulent transfer actions, commercial foreclosures, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) sales, and out-of-court workouts and restructurings. Paul’s experience spans several industries, including health care, retail, real estate, financial services, franchising and energy.

Erin Nichol, Corporate, Chicago

Nichol concentrates her practice in corporate matters. Erin previously worked as a senior account executive for Public Communications Inc., a marketing communications firm. During law school, she was a member of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and president of the Moot Court Honor Society.

Mark D. Rasmussen, Commercial Finance, Chicago

Rasmussen represents senior secured, first lien, second lien and mezzanine lenders as well as lead arrangers, administrative agents and private equity sponsors in all aspects of commercial finance deals, including cash flow and asset-based credit facilities and restructurings and workouts of troubled credits. Prior to joining Katten, Mark spent nearly 20 years at a large Chicago-based national law firm where he was a partner representing foreign and domestic banks, secured lenders, administrative agents for lender groups, financial institutions, funds, insurance companies, indenture and corporate trustees, shareholder and bondholder groups, and other creditors in commercial loan workout and restructuring matters.

Elizabeth Hermann Smith, Commercial Finance, Chicago

Hermann Smith concentrates her practice in a variety of leveraged finance matters, primarily representing administrative agents, lead arrangers and lenders in syndicated senior secured cash flow transactions, as well as representing mezzanine investors and borrowers in a variety of transactions. Elizabeth is a member of the Restaurant and Franchise Finance team and has experience with franchisor, franchisee and company-owned restaurant and retail lending in both the sponsor and non-sponsor context. In addition to her work with the Restaurant and Franchise Finance team, Elizabeth has experience in a number of other industries, including health care lending.
