DALLAS—James R. Griffin and Glenn D. West, partners in the Corporate Department at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, have been recognized by D CEO in its 2019 Dallas 500 publication as two of the Dallas area’s most powerful and influential business leaders. This is the second time Griffin has been honored, and marks the fourth consecutive year that West has been so honored.

The special annual publication, produced by D CEO’s editors after nearly a year of research and interviews, honors the most prominent business leaders in more than 60 industry categories who make Dallas-Fort Worth’s economy tick. Both Griffin and West were featured in the Law – Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) subcategory.

Griffin represents U.S and multi-national companies in a broad range of industries in their M&A activities. His experience in M&A and related transactions includes representing public and private company mergers, stock acquisitions, asset acquisitions, tender offers, divestitures, cross-border transactions, auction transactions, defensive strategies and going-private transactions, including some of the more prominent M&A transactions over the last decade. He also advises boards and special committees on fiduciary duties in the M&A context.

A nationally recognized leader in M&A and corporate governance law, Griffin has been recognized as a leading lawyer in Corporate/M&A in Chambers USA and has been honored for his professional excellence by The International Who’s Who of Mergers and Acquisitions Lawyers and The International Who’s Who of Corporate Governance Lawyers. In 2018, he was included on a select list of 100 attorneys and executives who have had an impact on business and legal matters in communities across the U.S. by the Business Journals and was recommended for M&A Mega-Deals in the United States by Legal 500 US. He has also been listed in Best Lawyers in America for M&A and corporate governance since 2008, including being named a 2019 Dallas/Fort Worth Corporate Governance Law “Lawyer of the Year.”

Similarly, West is one of the region’s most highly regarded M&A and private equity attorneys, having advised on many large and complex transactions at the regional, national and international level. His extensive experience includes advising on leveraged buyouts and dispositions of both public and private companies. He co-founded Weil’s Dallas office in 1987 and served as the office’s managing partner for two decades, helping to establish Weil’s reputation across the Southwest for handling sophisticated clients’ most critical legal matters.

Previously featured in D CEO’s Dallas 500 from 2016-2018, West received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Texas Lawyer in 2018. He is also consistently recognized by Best Lawyers in America, including being named its 2018 and 2013 Dallas/Fort Worth Mergers & Acquisitions “Lawyer of the Year,” plus Best Lawyers’ DFW top honors as the 2017 Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity “Lawyer of the Year,” and the 2010 Corporate “Lawyer of the Year.” He is ranked in the #1 band for Corporate/M&A in Texas by Chambers USA and has also been repeatedly ranked by Chambers as a leading lawyer for private equity nationwide.

Weil’s Dallas office, which recently celebrated its 30th year in Texas, brings the best of Wall Street-quality legal services to Dallas and the Southwest. The office is known for its sophisticated transactional, complex commercial litigation, and bankruptcy and restructuring practices, and is also widely recognized for its civic involvement and its extensive pro bono service to the Dallas community.
