Meet David S. De Jong
David De Jong chairs Stein Sperling's tax law group and has practiced for over 45 years in Montgomery County, where he was raised. His work focuses on tax planning, estate administration, business transactions, and valuation matters for individuals and businesses throughout the region.
David's experience includes serving as an expert witness in more than 50 cases involving tax, estate, business valuation, and income disputes. He co-authored J.K. Lasser's Year-Round Tax Strategies for 16 years and has been quoted in publications including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. He regularly presents to professional organizations on tax and estate planning topics. His professional involvement includes service as National President of the American Academy of Attorney-CPAs, where he received recognition for lifetime service to the organization. The Bar Association of Montgomery County named him an Honorary Life Bar Leader. David also teaches business transactions as an adjunct professor at Washington & Lee University, conducting an annual two-week intensive course.
David holds certifications in collaborative law and mediation, which he applies to tax controversies, estate disputes, and divorce-related financial matters. His practice combines technical knowledge in tax and valuation with practical solutions tailored to client objectives. He works directly with clients to address their business, estate, and tax concerns, drawing on decades of experience handling matters ranging from routine planning to complex litigation support.
