Meet Derek Michael Smith
Derek Michael Smith is one of the founders of the Law Offices of Smith & White PLLC. He brings more than 15 years of criminal law experience to the benefit of his clients. With a background as a prosecutor, he is able to provide valuable insight in his role as a defense attorney.
He has taken more than 150 jury trials to verdict and negotiated more than 15,000 cases.
While a prosecutor, he served as the head of the domestic violence unit for the City of Kent and supervised the misdemeanor unity before he relocated to Seattle. There, he served in the DUI and misdemeanor trial unit before being named the vice and narcotics liaison for the Seattle City Attorney’s Office. He has also presided over thousands of cases as judge pro tem in Federal Way, Pacific, and Des Moines.
Today, he focuses his practice on DUI offenses, misdemeanors and assault, domestic violence, weapon charges, and major felonies. Derek and his team also defend members of the military whose careers or gun rights may be jeopardized and address the immigration consequences of criminal charges.
Outside the office, Derek serves as vice president of St. Mark’s Lutheran by the Narrows church council. He is a member of the NRA and an avid reader.
