Meet Éliane Lachaîne

Éliane Lachaîne is an Ottawa personal injury lawyer and a founding partner of Burn Tucker Lachaîne, a bilingual firm she launched in 2014 with Colleen Burn and Laurie Tucker that is now one of the largest personal injury practices in Eastern Ontario. In 2020 she was certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Civil Litigation — a designation held by a small fraction of Ontario lawyers.

She studied at the University of Ottawa, earning a B.A. in Social Sciences in 2000 and her LL.B. in 2003. She articled at a local Ottawa firm in 2004–2005, was called to the Ontario bar in 2005, and stayed on as an associate until 2013, focusing on personal injury throughout.

Éliane practises in both English and French across motor vehicle claims, slip and fall and other injury claims, disability claims, and fatality claims, including serious head injuries and wrongful death files. Clients describe her the same way repeatedly: prompt, thorough, and someone who does her homework before she walks into a room.

She has spent much of her career teaching other lawyers how to do this work. Éliane taught Trial Advocacy at the University of Ottawa Common Law in 2017, co-chaired OTLA's Fall Conference the same year, and has presented on the deduction of accident benefits, collateral benefit updates, examinations for discovery, effective advocacy at mediation, and the new tort of family violence. She has contributed articles to OTLA's The Litigator, sat on the planning committee for the County of Carleton Law Association's Civil Litigation Conference since 2020, and helped launch the annual French-language advocacy workshops run by the Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario, which she has co-chaired since 2015. She joined AJEFO's Board of Directors in 2025.

Her community work is long-running rather than occasional. Éliane has been a pro bono lawyer with REACH Canada and Law Help Ontario since 2011. She volunteered with CALACS Francophone d'Ottawa from 2003 and served on its board from 2011 to 2017, and sat on the board of Centre Espoir Sophie — Ottawa's only francophone drop-in centre for marginalized women — from 2017 to 2023.

Burn Tucker Lachaîne serves clients from offices in Ottawa, Toronto, Waterloo, and Hawkesbury, and offers free consultations.
