Meet James E. Hacker
Jim Hacker, Esq. is a seasoned trial attorney and partner at Hacker Murphy, known throughout New York for his extensive courtroom experience and leadership in complex litigation. A graduate of Hamilton College and Albany Law School, Jim has built a distinguished legal career focused on high-stakes personal injury, medical malpractice, and commercial litigation.
Over the course of his career, Jim has tried more than 100 cases to verdict in courts across New York and has secured numerous multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients. His results-driven approach, combined with meticulous trial preparation, has earned him recognition as one of the region’s most accomplished litigators.
Jim is an elected Fellow of both the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International College of Trial Lawyers—prestigious, invitation-only organizations that recognize excellence among the top trial attorneys in North America. He has also earned an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been consistently recognized as a Best Lawyer in America and Super Lawyer in the areas of personal injury and commercial litigation, including prior honors as “Lawyer of the Year” in both fields.
In addition to his litigation practice, Jim has held numerous leadership roles within the legal community. He is the Past President of the Albany County Bar Association, the Albany County Bar Foundation, the Capital District Trial Lawyers Association, and the New York State Trial Lawyers Academy. He also served as President of the Board of Directors for the Legal Aid Society for Northeastern New York and received the Albany County Bar Association’s President’s Award in 2022.
Jim is a frequent lecturer for bar associations and trial lawyer organizations throughout New York. He is also an elected member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and serves as a United States District Court Mediator. Over the past 25 years, he has mediated and arbitrated more than 1,000 cases, bringing a balanced, experienced perspective to dispute resolution.
