James L. Knox is a seasoned trial lawyer and partner at Milligan, Beswick, Levine & Knox, with nearly three decades of experience representing individuals and families in high-stakes legal matters throughout San Bernardino & Riverside Counties. Known for his tenacious courtroom presence and deep understanding of both criminal defense and family law, Mr. Knox provides strategic, client-centered advocacy tailored to each client’s unique circumstances.
Mr. Knox’s practice is firmly rooted in litigation, with more than 95 % of his work devoted to contested matters across California’s state and federal courts. He has appeared in virtually every courthouse in San Bernardino & Riverside Counties and adjacent jurisdictions, handling thousands of cases that span the full spectrum of criminal defense — from misdemeanor charges and DUI defense to complex felony matters. His courtroom experience enables him to craft effective defense strategies that protect clients’ rights, challenge prosecutors' evidence, and pursue the best possible outcomes under the law.
In addition to his criminal defense work, Mr. Knox has substantial experience representing clients in family law disputes, including divorce, child custody, spousal support, and related domestic matters. Mr. Knox’s litigation experience is backed by a strong academic foundation. He earned his Juris Doctor from the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific and holds a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, in Political Science from California State University, San Bernardino. He is admitted to practice in California and in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
