Joseph Campisi

Joseph Campisi Jr. is a Toronto-area personal injury lawyer and the founder and managing partner of Campisi Law, a firm that acts exclusively for injured people and their families. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2003 after graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School, and is one of very few personal injury lawyers in the province to hold a Ph.D. in the field — his 2009 doctoral thesis evaluated motor vehicle accident compensation in Ontario since 1990.

That research is not decoration. Joseph has taught insurance law at Osgoode Hall as an Adjunct Professor since 2009 and is the updating editor of the Butterworths Ontario Motor Vehicle Insurance Practice Manual, the leading text on Ontario auto insurance law. Knowing the system at that depth is what lets him build arguments other counsel don't see, including the ground-breaking chronic pain case that expanded access to catastrophic impairment benefits in Ontario.

He has appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Divisional Court, the Superior Court of Justice, the Licence Appeal Tribunal, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, the Social Benefits Tribunal, and the CPP/OAS Review Tribunals. He was recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada for Personal Injury Litigation and received Osgoode's Adjunct Faculty Teaching Award in 2016.

Joseph writes and speaks widely on auto insurance reform and access to justice — in The Financial Post, The Lawyers Weekly, and OTLA's The Litigator — and is regularly sought out by the Toronto Star, Canadian Lawyer, and CBC for commentary. He also brought a constitutional challenge to Bill 15's restrictions on the right to sue.

Language is never a barrier at his firm: Campisi Law serves clients in more than 20 languages. Joseph has served on the Board of Directors of the Brain Injury Society of Toronto and plays soccer.
