Juan Garcia

Juan Garcia, a founding partner of Johnson Garcia LLP, has lived a quintessentially American story of grit and reinvention. Born in Brownsville, Texas, the son of Mexican immigrants, he went to work young as a grocery store sacker and spent fourteen years with a major grocery chain, climbing from that entry-level job all the way to Store Director of one of the largest stores in the Houston area. It was a successful career by any measure, but Juan felt called toward something different, and he ultimately resigned to attend law school. He has said the decision was confirmed from the very first day.

At South Texas College of Law Houston, Juan thrived. He graduated summa cum laude, earned a spot on the Law Review, and became a national moot court champion, including a national title he captured alongside his future law partner. It was during that first semester that he met Daniel Johnson; the two became study partners and close friends, planting the seed for the firm they would build together years later. After graduation, Juan joined the trial section of a prominent firm, where he handled complex, high-stakes matters and eventually rose to Senior Partner at Sutherland, one of the oldest, largest, and most respected law firms in the world.

Despite that prestige, Juan walked away from corporate practice to co-found Johnson Garcia LLP and devote himself to a single focus: recovering compensation for families and individuals harmed by the wrongdoing of others. Clients describe him as tough, a lawyer who understands how to fight and refuses to give an inch to insurance companies until he secures what he believes they deserve. His years representing major corporations and insurers now serve his clients' interests, giving him an insider's read on how the other side builds and defends a case. He practices in both personal injury and commercial litigation and is admitted before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and Texas federal district courts. He has been recognized repeatedly as a Texas Super Lawyer and named a Minority Powerbroker by Law360.

Beyond the courtroom, Juan has become a notable civic leader in Houston. He is a past chairman and continuing board member of the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston and broke a barrier of more than ninety years by becoming the first Hispanic member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Executive Committee, where he also chairs the Risk Management Committee and previously chaired the Go Tejano Committee. He serves as Chairman of the Board of the Harris County–Houston Sports Authority and of the Houston Sports Foundation, and he is a lifetime member of the Rodeo. For Juan, the firm represents life coming full circle, channeling the same relentless work ethic that defined his earliest jobs into service for his clients and his community.
