Meet Kevin Brick

For many business owners, success begins with an idea. Sustaining that success, however, requires thoughtful planning, trusted guidance, and the ability to anticipate challenges before they become costly problems. Few attorneys understand that progression as well as Kevin G. Brick, founder and managing partner of Brick Business Law.

Over the course of his career, Brick has developed a reputation for helping entrepreneurs and closely held businesses navigate the legal issues that accompany growth. While his practice includes high-stakes business litigation, transactions, and outside general counsel services, his philosophy has always extended beyond resolving disputes.

His goal is to help business owners build stronger companies by addressing legal issues proactively, allowing them to focus on growth instead of reacting to crises.

Learning From Every Stage of Business
That perspective was shaped by experience. Early in his legal career, Brick worked in a variety of settings that exposed him to nearly every stage of a business’s legal life cycle. After earning both his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration, he practiced with business law firms, served as an Assistant State Attorney in Hillsborough County—trying more than 100 jury trials—and worked for a national tax consulting firm.

Each role offered a different perspective, but together they reinforced a common lesson: businesses often encounter legal challenges not because they are unavoidable, but because important conversations and planning happened too late.

When Brick founded Brick Business Law in 2015, he set out to build a firm around that realization. Rather than trying to be everything to everyone, he intentionally focused on serving growing businesses that often find themselves in a unique position: they have outgrown the stage where legal issues can be handled informally, yet they are not large enough to maintain in-house counsel.

By acting as an extension of a client’s leadership team, Brick and his colleagues help business owners navigate legal decisions that can affect every stage of growth.

Preventing Problems Before They Start
Much of Brick’s approach stems from years spent handling what he describes as “business divorces”—cases where disputes between business partners threatened the companies they had built together.

The fact patterns varied, but the underlying issues often felt familiar. One owner believed he was doing more of the work. Another had contributed more money. Expectations around decision-making, compensation, future opportunities, or exit planning had never been clearly defined. By the time those disputes reached litigation, the business relationship was often already strained.

Those experiences fundamentally shaped Brick’s practice. Today, he emphasizes careful planning, strong governance documents, and proactive legal counsel designed to prevent disputes whenever possible rather than simply resolving them after the damage has been done.

That preventative mindset continues to influence the firm’s work. Today, Brick’s practice generally falls into three interconnected areas:
Business litigation involving complex commercial disputes
Business transactions, including acquisitions, sales, investments, and ownership changes
Outside general counsel services that help growing businesses navigate day-to-day legal decisions

While each area presents different legal challenges, they all support the same objective: helping business owners make informed decisions that promote long-term stability and sustainable growth.

As a Certified Exit Planning Advisor, Brick also works with owners preparing for one of the most significant transitions in the life of a company. That role reflects the same broader philosophy that defines his practice: effective legal counsel should account not only for where a business is today, but where its owners want it to go.

Building Businesses—and a Firm
Brick’s commitment to mastering business litigation eventually earned Board Certification from The Florida Bar, one of the profession’s most respected distinctions. Recognition from Super Lawyers, Florida Trend’s Legal Elite, Martindale-Hubbell with its AV Preeminent® rating, and other organizations followed—not simply as accolades, but as reflections of the reputation he has built serving Florida businesses.

As Brick’s role within the firm has evolved, so has his focus.

While he continues to advise clients on significant legal matters, he has increasingly dedicated his attention to building an organization capable of serving business owners at the highest level. He often speaks about working “on the business” rather than solely “in the business,” investing in systems, mentoring attorneys, and creating an environment where his team can thrive alongside the clients they represent.

That same philosophy extends to his clients. For Brick, success is measured not simply by favorable legal outcomes, but by watching businesses grow.

Ask him what he finds most rewarding, and he is unlikely to start with verdicts, awards, or professional recognition. He is more likely to talk about the business owner who started with one location and later grew to six, knowing his firm had played a role in helping that vision become reality.

That outlook continues to define both Kevin Brick’s career and the firm he founded. By combining courtroom experience, business acumen, and a genuine appreciation for the challenges entrepreneurs face, he has built a practice dedicated not only to solving legal problems, but to helping businesses become stronger, more resilient, and better prepared for whatever comes next.
