Meet Michael Walter
Michael Walter is a Mississauga employment, long-term disability, and personal injury lawyer with more than 30 years at the bar. As partner at Walter Law Group, he represents employees, disability claimants, and injured people across Mississauga, Toronto, and the surrounding GTA — with the added advantage of knowing exactly how the other side builds its file.
Michael grew up in Saskatchewan and earned his B.A. at the University of Saskatchewan before moving to Toronto for law school. He graduated with his LL.B. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1992 and was called to the Ontario bar in 1994.
He started out on the defence side, working in downtown Toronto on behalf of insurance companies and employers. That work taught him how claims get evaluated, disputed, and defended from the inside, but his interest was in representing the people on the receiving end of those decisions. In 2002 he built a plaintiff-focused practice, and he has spent the two decades since using that insider knowledge on behalf of clients. Along the way he earned a reputation for being fair but fierce.
His practice covers three connected areas: employment law, including wrongful and constructive dismissal, severance package reviews, executive severance, non-competition agreements, and human rights matters; long-term and short-term disability claims, including CPP disability; and personal injury, including car accidents, slip and falls, chronic pain, and brain injuries. He also advises employers on contracts, workplace investigations, and employment litigation.
Michael's peers trust his judgment enough to bring him their own disputes. He completed a Certificate in Advanced ADR at the University of Windsor in 2014 and is regularly retained as a mediator in personal injury, employment, and disability claims, a role that has sharpened his read on what a case is genuinely worth and when a settlement offer is worth refusing.
He is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, and has been consulted as an employment law expert by the Canadian Press on workplace power dynamics.
Clients tend to describe the same two things: clarity and responsiveness. Michael explains where a case stands in plain terms, stays on top of the file, and gets back to people quickly. As he puts it, he is honoured when someone comes to him for help, because it is their life and future on the line — and the goal is not just an excellent legal result, but making the process itself easier to get through.
For anyone in Mississauga or the GTA facing a termination, a denied disability claim, or a serious injury, Michael Walter and the Walter Law Group team are available for a consultation.
