Robert J. Kaufman

A founding member of Kaufman & Hilbert, PC, Robert J. Kaufman brings more than five decades of legal experience to his practice. Before establishing the firm, he built and led his own law practice for nearly 40 years, which later merged with Fox Rothschild LLP, where he served as a partner. He went on to hold partnership roles at Hall Booth Smith, PC and Chalmers, Adams, Backer & Kaufman before co-founding his current firm. A graduate of Emory University School of Law (J.D., 1975) and the State University of New York at Stony Brook (B.A., cum laude, 1972), Mr. Kaufman is admitted to practice in Georgia, New York, and the District of Columbia, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Tax Court, and the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Mr. Kaufman is a seasoned trial attorney whose litigation career spans an exceptionally broad range of matters, including business disputes, medical malpractice, construction litigation, intellectual property, injunctions, breach of contract, quasi-contract, tort claims, and domestic relations. He has tried cases in courtrooms across Georgia and throughout the United States, advocating for clients at both the trial and appellate levels, and has secured multiple verdicts, judgments, and settlements exceeding one million dollars. Beyond the courtroom, he offers deep experience in business counseling, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, and general corporate matters. He is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Association for Justice.
