Meet Ronald L. Abramson
Ronald Abramson serves as Chair of Shaheen & Gordon’s Immigration Law Group.
Starting his career in 1993 with the New Hampshire Public Defender, Ron has become one of the state’s leading immigration attorneys. Over his 30-year career, he has managed a wide range of cases in immigration, criminal defense, civil litigation, and international law. His achievements include numerous awards, recognition as a top immigration lawyer, experience as an international trade consultant, and teaching law courses in the U.S. and abroad.
A native of Chile and a naturalized U.S. citizen, Ron has a personal connection to immigration. He has secured various business and family-based visas, pioneered post-conviction relief cases in state and federal courts, taught at local, regional, and national training programs, and argued appeals before the New Hampshire Supreme Court, Board of Immigration Appeals, and U.S. Circuit Courts.
Ron assists clients with investigations by agencies such as U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Customs & Border Enforcement (ICE), the U.S. and New Hampshire Departments of Labor, Social Security Administration, and the State Department.
Beyond immigration, Ron maintains a robust criminal defense practice, focusing on the interplay between state/federal criminal law and immigration. As a member of the U.S. District Court for New Hampshire’s Criminal Justice Act panel, he handles complex federal criminal cases. His federal expertise extends to mandamus and habeas corpus cases, addressing processing delays and unlawful detentions. Ron frequently supports international students facing legal issues in the U.S.
An active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Ron serves as a liaison to the New Hampshire USCIS field office and advocates for comprehensive immigration reform, informed by his personal and professional insights into the challenges of an outdated legal system.
Ron is a go-to expert for media on high-profile immigration cases, appearing frequently on television, radio, and in local, national, and international print media.
As one of New Hampshire’s few native Spanish-speaking attorneys, and with conversational (though slow) French, Ron connects directly with clients, eliminating the need for interpreters and fostering stronger attorney-client relationships.
In his limited spare time, Ron, a passionate soccer fan and former player, enjoys birding, reading, hiking, fitness, live theater, and music. He is deeply engaged in electoral politics, having hosted events for candidates ranging from local Select Board members to U.S. Presidents.
Ron’s creative, innovative approach to law is mirrored in his distinctive style, earning him the unofficial title of the area’s “Best-Dressed Male Lawyer.”
