Steve Prager

Prosecutors in El Paso County still work from plea guidelines, Steve Prager wrote. During his years at the District Attorney's Office there, he moved from prosecuting DUI and domestic violence cases to running the county court's domestic violence unit, where he reviewed every incoming case, made the initial plea offers, and kept the most serious files for himself. He finished as County Court Supervisor, trained new deputy district attorneys along the way, and tried upwards of 40 cases to a jury.

Now he defends. At Prager Law, the Denver firm he founded in 2024, his practice concentrates on DUI and DWAI charges, domestic violence allegations, and felony defense, and he has appeared in courts across fourteen Colorado counties, from Denver and Arapahoe to El Paso and Summit. Recent results include a full acquittal at a domestic violence trial, dismissals or deferred judgments in his last fifteen cases resolved short of trial, and deferred judgments in DUI matters that rarely see them, including second-offense and high-BAC cases.

Steve earned his J.D. from the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law in 2016, where he served as a senior staff editor of the Denver Law Review and graduated with a Certificate in Constitutional Rights and Remedies, following a political science degree at CU Boulder. He belongs to the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National College for DUI Defense, The National Trial Lawyers Top 100, and America's Top 100 Criminal Defense Attorneys. His family has been in Denver for four generations; away from court, he plays guitar, reads, lifts weights, and pulls for the Broncos.
