About
Colin Bell

Colin Bell practices bankruptcy law and is an associate attorney with Stewart Law Group. Attorney-rated 10-of-10 by Avvo, Inc., Bell received the Avvo Clients' Choice Award in 2020.

In 2009, Bell was admitted to practice law in Arizona and in the US District Court, District of Arizona and US Bankruptcy Court. Early in his legal career, he spent four-and-a-half years as Deputy County Attorney with the Cochise County Attorney's Office. Bell shifted his practice from prosecutor to criminal defense representation and, soon after, added consumer bankruptcy as a practice area.

Bell represents clients in Chapter 7 Liquidation Bankruptcy and Chapter 13 Wage Earner's Bankruptcy proceedings as well as bankruptcy appeals. In his element as a litigator, he is driven to protect his clients in every proceeding, ensuring they receive the full benefit of their legal rights.

A Jason Long Memorial Scholarship recipient (2003), Bell's BA in native studies, political science, and history is from University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada (2005). He received a National Merit Scholarship to attend Western New England University School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he obtained his JD and was the law school graduating class speaker (2008). A moot court competitor and student prosecutor in the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, it seems Bell was destined to be a top-tier litigator.

As a member of the State Bar of Arizona, Bell is an executive committee member of the Criminal Justice Section and sits on the section’s Future Criminal Practitioner Scholarship Committee.

Bell appreciates the opportunities he has to affect tremendous change in many people's lives by helping them eliminate debt, regain control of their finances, and obtain a much-needed fresh start. Whether the client is facing foreclosure, wage garnishment, repossession, or a lawsuit and needs to file an emergency petition with the US Bankruptcy Court, Bell is prepared to use every tool in the toolbox to get that client immediate debt relief.

In Need Of A Peoria Bankruptcy Attorney?

If your financial situation is in crisis mode, you must act quickly to protect your assets and financial interests. Creditors don’t waste time when your accounts show signs of default. They submit adverse credit bureau reports that lower your credit score. They transfer your accounts to collection agencies who call your home, job, or business until they get a definitive response. Peoria Recovery attorneys secure creditor’s judgments through lawsuits. They satisfy court judgments by garnishing your income and placing liens against your home.

Economic problems can be stressful, especially when you see no potential for relief. Peoria Bankruptcy attorneys can help you navigate the most complex financial problems. They intervene on your behalf to stop collection efforts. They use their legal knowledge and experience to produce financial relief.

A Common Problem

If you’re feeling anxious over your financial future, you’re not alone. Money management problems occur at all levels of income and economic spectrums. They arise due to uniquely personal issues such as high medical bills, job losses, and divorce. Unexpected expenses and spending indiscretions cause problems as well.  It doesn’t matter how you reached your credit crisis, you shouldn’t try to handle it on your own.

Bankruptcy attorneys in Peoria provide the critical legal assistance you need. They listen to your concerns, evaluate your financial issues, and determine if bankruptcy is your best option. After hearing your story and reviewing your personal financial information, your attorney might recommend that you attempt debt forgiveness, bill consolidation, or another non-legal option. When bankruptcy is the best alternative, you can trust your Peoria bankruptcy attorney to understand the complex federal code and work with you to comply with the requirements.

United States Bankruptcy Code

The Bankruptcy Code provides protection for both the debtor and the creditor. It protects the debtor by requiring that creditors cease formal and informal collection activities. It protects creditors by forcing debtors to document their assets in writing and during a formal examination. This disclosure allows the court to decide if you have the ability to pay or if you meet the qualifications to discharge your debt. Your attorney initiates the legal process by filing a petition citing the appropriate chapter.

  • Chapter 7: You receive a complete discharge of your debt. If you have assets, a trustee oversees a liquidation and your creditors receive any cash proceeds.
  • Chapter 11: A debtor (usually a business) works with creditors to establish a plan to reorganize and pay some or all the debt.
  • Chapter 12: Family farmers and fishermen can reorganize their debt and arrange to pay some or all of it to their creditors.
  • Chapter 13: This chapter is sometimes called the “wage-earner” plan. If you have a “regular income,” it allows you to establish a repayment plan. To qualify, your debt must meet certain guidelines and you must complete your repayment within three to five years.
  • Chapter 15: Applies to parties involved in foreign court cases.

Bankruptcy is a formal legal process. You must comply with strict rules and guidelines and appear at court-ordered hearings. Attorneys work with you to gather the required information and submit necessary documents on your behalf. They help you comply with court requests and prepare your responses. They represent you during hearings and work to provide an outcome that gives you the financial relief you need.

I was referred to Melissa Kleminski-Bower by a dear friend and have had to retain her twice for child custody/parenting time. She's a very experienced attorney with impressive skills and knowledge taking both of my cases to victory. She's very quick to respond, detailed and her advice is always solid even if it's hard to hear. She's able to explain guidance in ways a non-expert can understand. My case was very complicated with massive amounts of evidence presented and she helped me the whole way and nailed it all in Trial. She even got me awarded attorney fees. I'm forever grateful for her work and know she's there if I should ever need her again. If you need a fighter in family law Melissa is your gal 100%!

We were given a complimentary review of our case and even were given free advice. The cost to hire the attorneys was unfortunately more than we could afford at the moment but without a doubt they will be my first call if and when we have to obtain a lawyer.

Melissa was great to work with. Either Melissa or her paralegal kept in contact with me making communication quick and easy. All documentation is performed electronically so I received all correspondence from Melissa, the courts, and opposing counsel in a timely manner, not waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I am very satisfied with the service provided by Melissa, her paralegal, the client coordinators, and the entire office staff.
