AMB Group Hosts Annual Personal Injury Summit

The AMB Group held its Annual Personal Injury Summit in Orlando, FL. It was a total success. Medical and legal professionals from all over Florida, as well as other states, came together for a full day of expert classes and making fruitful connections in the PI industry.

D.W. Perkins Plaque Unveiling Ceremony

January 30, 2024

On January 30, the legal community gathered to celebrate the life and memory of Daniel Webster Perkins, Esq. (1879-1972) with the unveiling of a plaque in his honor at the Duval County Courthouse. Perkins is one of the founders and the namesake of the DW Perkins Bar Association. The plaque was sponsored by Pajcic & Pajcic.

All Bar Celebration

On January 17, The All-Bar Celebration was held at the Daniel Webster Perkins Jury Assembly Room in the Duval County Courthouse. The participating bars included Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association, Jacksonville Bar Association, D.W. Perkins Bar Association, Jacksonville Justice Association, Jacksonville Asian American Bar Association, Catholic Lawyers Guild, ABOTA – Jax, St. Augustine Inn of Courts, St. Johns Association of Women Lawyers and the Northeast Florida Criminal Defense Lawyers.

JWLA November Luncheon

The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association hosted their November luncheon at The River Club. Florida Bar President Scott Westheimer presented “The State of the Florida Bar,” touching on lawyer discipline statistics and best ways to avoid a bar grievance, member benefits, legal technology (including cybersecurity and AI), and voluntary bar association cooperation and collaboration.

Jacksonville Bar Association YLS Kickoff

August 24, 2023

The Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section hosted its Kickoff event at the Gunster office. Over 60 young lawyers attended to network and engage with fellow professionals to kickstart their career.

This year, the event supported Community in Schools of Jacksonville, which serves 40 Duval public schools and over 3,000 local students. Attendees made in-person donations or purchased school supplies via Amazon.

JWLA Hosts Annual Judicial Reception

The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association hosted its Annual Judicial Reception at the TIAA Bank Field US Assure Upper East Club. Approximately 500 judges, attorneys, and legal professionals attended for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and great networking.

JWLA Hosts “Grow in Your Career” May Lunch

The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association hosted its May luncheon at the River Club. This month, the presentation, “Grow in your Career: What Got You Here Won’t Get You There: How to Prepare NOW for Your Next Role” was presented by Elise Holtzman.

The program examined the skills, behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs you must shift to progress, how to resist the natural pressure to maintain the status quo, and how to overcome inertia and create your path forward.

This month’s luncheon spotlighted the JWLA Kathy Para Student Internship at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid. The internship offers critical legal experience for a law student, while also providing needed legal services in the local community. This internship will fund at least one paid part-time position for a law student intern each summer to do the important work of JALA. Every $10 donated funds one hour of student time.

The JWLA April Luncheon at the River Club

The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association’s April Luncheon included a presentation on self-esteem by working to battle imposter syndrome. The panelists were Sally Ann Brown, legal counsel at Mayo Clinic and division chair for the Florida Division of the Mayo Clinic Legal Department; Kristen Van der Linde, a shareholder and practice group leader at Boyd & Jenerette, P.A.; Charmaine Chiu, a shareholder and board member at Smith Hulsey & Busey; and Lori Boyer, chief executive officer of the Downtown Investment Authority. The panel was moderated by Kelli Lueckert, an assistant county attorney in Clay County and JWLA’s immediate past president.

This year, JWLA is continuing its efforts of community outreach and giving back to the local community. For each luncheon, they will spotlight a local charity or nonprofit through a donation drive to be collected at that month’s luncheon. This luncheon spotlighted The Women’s Center of Jacksonville.

Freed To Run 2022

November 19, 2022

Freed to Run held the finish line and celebration November 19 from 4-5 pm on the lawn of the Duval County Courthouse. Jacksonville native and Olympic athlete Garrett Scantling was the lead runner in conjunction with the final marathon.   

Freed to Run founder Mike Freed is a shareholder with Gunster, Jacksonville. Board certified in business litigation, his practice spans a wide range of substantive legal disciplines and specialized industries including corporate governance, education, health care, hospitality, labor and employment, construction, logistics, transportation, and receiverships.Freed is also a touring stand-up comedian in his free time. 

Over the years, Freed to Run has raised $2.5 million benefiting the North Florida Medical Legal Partnership (NFMLP). NFMLP is part of a nationwide network of projects in which professionals from the medical and legal communities combine resources to produce outcomes for low-income and vulnerable patients (children and adults) that positively impact their health and ability to thrive. Through the partnership, Jacksonville Area Legal Aid serves about 300 children a year, including patients of Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville, UF Health Specialty Pediatric Clinics, and Community PedsCare, a pediatric program of Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
