About Patrick J. Cooper
Patrick J. Cooper is the leading divorce lawyer and owner of Cooper Family Law, LLC.
How Patrick became a lawyer. Patrick was introduced to the criminal justice system early on in his life. He saw the life and work of a lawyer through the eyes of literature’s and television’s most notorious attorneys. “I was always a voracious reader and a logical problem solver, so the law seemed like a natural fit. As it became apparent that my interpersonal skills were one of my strong suits, I saw a career in the law as a real possibility.”
Why Patrick chose to practice family law. As a young lawyer, Patrick realized that family law was a niche in high demand across a broad population. “As long as we have families, people will have family problems.”
Since he saw a need, he sought to become part of the solution and help people with these family problems.
Patrick’s philosophy for family law. “My philosophy is to strive to provide the highest level of legal services while also taking into account the personal needs of my individual clients. Family law, more than any other area of legal practice, is about the individual client and his or her family.”
The origins of Cooper Family Law. Patrick took a leap when he split from a previous firm to start Cooper Family Law, LLC in 2023. Since opening his own practice, he has focused exclusively on family law and helping families navigate through the complex legal system. His passion for this area of law is evident in the results he achieves for his clients.
Patrick is proud to work with a very cohesive team which he believes translates to a better experience for the client. He also notes that it makes it more enjoyable for the people in the office putting in long days and weeks on work that matters.
The highlight of Patrick’s workday. “Helping people, despite being difficult and complicated to do, is the most rewarding part of my day.”
Patrick appreciates the opportunity to listen – truly listen – to his clients and offer them a way forward.
Patrick in the community. Patrick is actively involved with the family law section of the Philadelphia County Bar Association, currently serving on its executive committee. He is also a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Committee and of the Nicholas A. Cipriani American Inn of Court for Family Law Attorneys, which is a small organization where attorneys and judges who work in the family law sphere can meet and exchange ideas and learn from each other in a social and relaxed setting.
His firm also participates in various charitable and philanthropic endeavors. “We support the Burn Foundation, which works to benefit the Greater Philadelphia Area community by providing information about preventing fires and burn injuries, supporting our regional burn centers, and advocates for burn survivors and their families.”
Patrick outside the office. Patrick is a family man, enjoying time with his wife, children, family and friends. He also likes to get outside and ski, hike, swim and enjoy live music. He is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. “I just ask that my clients please not hold that against me.”
