The ACLU of Arizona celebrated 60 years of defending civil rights and civil liberties throughout Arizona on Saturday, November 2, 2019. The night’s honorees included Perkins Coie, who were given the 2019 Outstanding Pro Bono Firm Award for their support in several monumental cases, including Cox v. Voyles, which challenged Arizona’s unconstitutional civil asset forfeiture law and Parsons v. Ryan, a class action lawsuit challenging inadequate medial, dental, and mental care in Arizona prisons. The event was well attended and included a silent auction and raffle, with keynote speaker Jose Antonio Vargas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Emmy-nominated filmmaker, and leading voice for the human rights of immigrants closing out the celebration.
