Hinshaw & Culbertson Elects Six Partners in South Florida

MIAMI, FL—U.S. law firm Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce the election of six attorneys as partners in its Miami and Fort Lauderdale offices. The new partners represent a wide range of practice areas.

The new Hinshaw partners in Miami are:

Melissa Gillinov (Insurance Services) handles a wide range of insurance coverage disputes in Florida’s state and federal courts. She has counseled clients and conducted litigation on claims related to commercial general liability, commercial auto liability, non-trucking liability, professional liability, inland marine insurance, and excess and umbrella liability policies. She also represents brokers against E&O claims and defends policyholders in numerous disputes, including lawsuits alleging negligence and violations of the Fair Housing Act. She holds a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law.

Ofonedu-Ime Goodwyn (Commercial Transactions) is a Florida Bar Board Certified Real Estate Attorney who focuses his practice on the acquisition, development, leasing and disposition of commercial real property, secured lending transactions, corporate matters, and general commercial contract issues. He represents closely held companies, national and regional lenders, and a wide range of other clients in real estate and other business transactions. Active in his community, Goodwyn is the Board Chair of Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida (NHSSF), a Community Development Financial Institution, which provides a full spectrum of homeownership services to help address South Florida’s affordable housing crisis. He holds a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.

Daniel Shatz (Insurance Services) is an experienced litigator, with a focus on complex business, intellectual property, and insurance coverage disputes. He has represented individuals and companies in a wide range of lawsuits and legal matters, including regulatory investigations and mediations, as well as evidentiary hearings and class actions in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts. He holds a J.D. from Cornell Law School.

Anthony Torrente (Product Liability) handles commercial litigation involving a wide array of issues, including contract disputes, real estate disputes, condominium and homeowner’s association disputes, financial services, personal injury and wrongful death litigation, environmental issues, construction cases, and employment matters. He also counsels clients in commercial and residential transactions, contract negotiations, and loan modifications. Additionally, he is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Civil Circuit/County Mediator, with experience mediating cases in breach of contract and commercial matters, debt collection, foreclosures, Americans with Disabilities Act, personal injury, and property damage and first party claims. He holds a J.D. from Barry University School of Law.

The new Hinshaw partners in Fort Lauderdale are:

Catherine Hedglon (Personal Injury & Property Damage) who focuses her litigation practice on general liability, personal injury, wrongful death, products liability and professional and medical malpractice claims. She represents multinational Fortune 500 companies in a vast array of liability matters, with an emphasis on product liability litigation in the construction industry, including defect litigation, building violations and code compliance issues. She holds a J.D. cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law.

Jill Mendelsohn (Insurance Services) is an accomplished litigator, with wide-ranging experience advising clients in general liability, insurance coverage, personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, construction defect, code compliance issues, and professional and medical malpractice matters. She also represents employers in numerous disputes, including issues under the Americans with Disabilities Act. She holds a J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and an M.B.A. from the University of Florida.
