KANSAS CITY, MO—Lathrop GPM LLP is pleased to share that on Aug. 3, 2023, a Western District of Missouri jury ruled in favor of the firm’s client Maxus Metropolitan, LLC. After a two-week trial, the jury awarded Maxus Metropolitan LLC 100 percent of damages plus attorney’s fees and vexatious refusal damages. The verdict totals about $27.4 million.
The breach of contract case was brought against Travelers insurance company after it refused to pay covered losses following a September 2018 fire at the Metropolitan Apartments in Birmingham, Alabama. The apartments are managed by Maxus.
