Karl Riley Receives On the Rise Top 40 Young Lawyers Award

Karl Riley

Snell & Wilmer is pleased to announce that Karl Riley, an attorney in the firm’s Las Vegas office, was honored by the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) as a recipient of the On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyers Award. Riley was recognized online and will be featured in the summer print edition of the ABA YLD’s The Young Lawyer (TYL) publication.

The annual On the Rise award recognizes the top 40 ABA young lawyers who exemplify a broad range of high achievement, innovation, vision, leadership, and legal and community service. To receive the award, the nominee must be a member of the ABA and a licensed attorney in the U.S. who is 36 years old or younger, or admitted to practice for five years or less. Completed nominations are reviewed by a selection committee comprised of practicing attorneys in private practice and in-house positions. The strength of the nomination was subjectively based upon the reputation of the nominator, the professional relationship between the nominator and nominee, and the nominator’s first-hand knowledge of the nominee’s experience, skill and character.

“I am humbled to receive the ABA On the Rise Award,” said Riley, “Thank you to all my friends and mentors who helped me along the way and especially to Aaron Ford who nominated me.”

Active in several bar organizations, Riley currently serves as Chair-Elect of the State Bar of Nevada Young Lawyers Section and Vice-Director of Bar Leadership for the ABA YLD. Karl will serve as the Director of Bar Leadership after the ABA annual convention. Karl previously served as the President of the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association (NBA) and Director of the NBA’s Region IX. He chairs the National Advisory Board of the National Black Law Student Association and serves as a member of the Clark County Bar Association and the ABA’s Business Section Labor and Employment Subcommittee Co-Chair. Riley is a board member of the Urban Chamber of Commerce and a previous board member of the Las Vegas Alumni Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Riley’s practice is concentrated in business and commercial litigation, labor and employment, and government relations. He represents the firm’s clients in various contract disputes, particularly in banking, real estate, entity control, business conflicts and a variety of financial issues. He also defends the firm’s clients in discrimination and harassment claims under Title VII and state law, as well as in wage and hour disputes. In addition, he is also a member of the firm’s Attorney Development and Diversity & Inclusion Committees.

He received his B.S. from Washington University and his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
