New York, NY—The Northeast Region of American Friends of the Hebrew University (AFHU) proudly honored Stacey R. Friedman (pictured) and Stephen M. Cutler, two leading lights of the New York legal community, with the George A. Katz Torch of Learning Award at a virtual event on April 8.
The event raised over $1 million to benefit the Hebrew University Faculty of Law and the mission of its American Friends. Following greetings from friends, family and associates of the honorees, and their acceptance addresses, the honorees joined JPMorgan Chase CEO and Chairman Jamie Dimon in conversation about the global financial services firm’s industry-leading work to maximize diversity and inclusion and to lead and support social justice causes.
Ms. Friedman is Executive Vice President and General Counsel for JPMorgan Chase & Co. She also serves as a member of the firm’s Operating Committee. She previously served as Deputy General Counsel for the firm and General Counsel for the Corporate & Investment Bank. Ms. Friedman joined the company in 2012, from Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where she was a partner in the firm’s Litigation Group and a key advisor to the firm.
Ms. Friedman is a member of the board for the National Women’s Law Center, an organization dedicated to fighting for gender justice in the courts, public policy, and society. She received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and J.D. from Duke University School of Law.
Mr. Cutler is a litigation partner and head of the Investigations practice group at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP. Previously, Mr. Cutler was a Vice Chairman at JPMorgan Chase & Co., following nine years as the company’s General Counsel. Before joining JPMorgan Chase, Mr. Cutler was the Director of the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement. Mr. Cutler serves on the boards of the National Women’s Law Center and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He previously served on the boards of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the Legal Action Center, the Pro Bono Partnership, and Appleseed. Mr. Cutler earned his B.A. from Yale University, and J.D. from Yale Law School.
The George A. Katz Torch of Learning Award recognizes the honorees’ professional achievements and leadership in a range of causes. Celebrating its 51st year, the distinguished award commemorates the late George A. Katz, co-founder of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, and a philanthropic leader dedicated to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the mission of AFHU.
