DALLAS, TX—The Weil team led by partner David Gail (pictured), along with client Greg Moundas, the executive vice president and general counsel at Aimbridge Hospitality, earned 2019 M&A Deal of the Year recognition from The Texas Lawbook and the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Dallas-Fort Worth chapter (ACC-DFW) in the organizations’ annual DFW Corporate Counsel Awards.
The award, presented January 30 at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, recognized Weil for its work advising Aimbridge Hospitality Holdings, LLC, a portfolio company of Lee Equity Partners and General Atlantic, in its early 2019 sale to Advent International. The deal involved the sale of Aimbridge, at the time North America’s largest independent hotel firm, to Boston-based Advent, one of the largest global private equity investors. It was especially significant because the deal positioned Aimbridge for another massive merger later in 2019 with Interstate Hotels & Resorts, helping Aimbridge to become what it is now – the leading third-party hotel management company in the world.
The deal team from Weil, led by Gail, included Private Equity associates Drew Mosier, Shanna Dean, Hancen Yu and Austin Freeman. The team also included Banking & Finance partner Andrew Yoon; Technology & IP Transactions Head Michael Epstein; Tax partner Jonathan Macke; Executive Compensation & Benefits partners Jennifer Britz and Sarah Downie; Cybersecurity, Data Privacy & Information Management Co-Head Randi Singer; Employment Litigation partner Gary Friedman; Antitrust counsel Vadim Brusser and Jonathan Cheng; Banking & Finance counsel Paul Overmyer; Technology & IP Transactions associates Dennis Adams and Lauren Springer; Tax associate Adam Arikat; Executive Compensation & Benefits associate Lauren Sawyer (Not Yet Admitted in New York); and Employment Litigation associate Justin DiGennaro.
