2025 NCBA Confab in Asheville

June 26-28, 2025

The North Carolina Bar Association held its 2025 Annual Meeting in Asheville in June. Rob Harrington of Robinson Bradshaw in Charlotte was sworn in as the president of the North Carolina Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Foundation. Beth Langley of Brooks Pierce in Greensboro was elected to serve as president-elect NCBA. Langley will serve in 2025-26 as president-elect of the NCBA. The Durham County Bar Association hosted the annual Law Day on May 1 in front of the courthouse, which was attended by roughly 100 attorneys. Stand up. Speak out. Defend the courts. Silence is not an option—not for us, and not for any attorney who understands the weight of our responsibility,” said DCBA President and Sixteenth Judicial District President Josh McIntyre. 

Elevate Your Litigation Practice Seminar

Triangle lawyers took part in an Elevate Your Litigation Practice & Support a Great Cause seminar in May at Whitaker & Atlantic. Featured speakers included James Vann of Vann Attorneys and Eric Sanchez and Stacie Monahan with Maestro Strategic Partners. DCBA Raises Funds for Law School Scholarships

April 10, 2025

The Durham Bar Foundation’s Inaugural Benefit raised over $21,000 for the Adam Lischer Memorial Scholarship Award fund and other legal-industry philanthropic endeavors on April 10. More than 135 people attended the dinner and silent auction at Mystic Farm & Distillery in Durham.

18th Annual 4ALL-Lawyers on Call

The North Carolina Bar Foundation held its 18th annual 4ALL-Lawyers on Call on March 7. Roughly 450 attorneys, paralegals, and law students answered 7,063 calls in six locations across the state, including the studios at WRAL-TV. In the 18 years of the 4ALL-Lawyers on Call, 144,006 calls have been answered.

Campbell University’s monthly Breakfast Continuing Legal Education in February focused on Financial Literacy for New and Seasoned Attorneys with the Wake County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division.    

Legal Feeding Frenzy Kick-Off

The NCBA Young Lawyers Division hosted its annual Legal Feeding Frenzy Kick-Off event at the Raleigh Food Bank on February 28. This kick-off was the beginning of a month-long friendly competition where law firms, law schools, corporate in-house counsel, and government/public interest organizations compete for the most donations benefitting local Feeding the Carolinas food banks.

Capital City Lawyers Association Hosts a Night at the Oscars

Over 450 guests packed the ballroom at the Hilton Raleigh North Hills in December for the Capital City Lawyers Association Scholarship & Holiday Black Lawyer’s Ball. The theme was “Night at the Oscars.”
The beneficiary was the CCLA Scholarship Fund. “CCLA will award two scholarships to deserving law students who demonstrate a commitment to practicing in the Triangle area and using their legal training and skills to benefit low-income and/or traditionally under-served communities,” said CCLA President Taylor Scruggs-Smith

Bike Ride for Campbell Law

Campbell Law School held its Sixth annual Bike Ride for Campbell Law on October 19. Sixty riders rode 15-mile or 45-mile courses. The event raised $1,350 to support Campbell Law’s student-led pro bono projects.

October. Over 100 people attended the one-day conference.

NC Lawyers Provide Support to Devastated Western NC

September, 2024

The photos and reports from western North Carolina can’t begin to tell the story of the ongoing horror created by Hurricane Helene on September 26-27, 2024, which killed 224 people and caused $53 billion in damages … so far.

Law firms and legal organizations across the state, like Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC), have provided donations, supplies and time. NCAJ donated $18,150 to the Red Cross in forfeited registration fees from its Mountain Magic conference.

In late October, AALM publisher Robert “Bob” Friedman deployed with Operation BBQ Relief to serve over 300,000 hot meals to people who were left homeless, had no electricity, no water, or were trapped in places with no roads.

Light the Way Gala

The Sixth Annual Friends of Wake County Guardian ad Litem Light the Way Gala was held in September at The Maxwell in Raleigh. Over 200 people attended and a record $65,000 was raised.

The Raleigh Triangle Area Association of Corporate Counsel held its fall reception at the Angus Barn in September. The annual social event allowed members and non-members to mingle and network.

NCAWA Conference Advocates for Choosing Change

The North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys held its annual conference in September with virtual CLEs all month. Its annual banquet was held at the Raleigh Marriott Crabtree

The theme of this year’s conference was “Choosing Change: Advocating for and celebrating positive leadership & inclusive change in the workplace and legal field.”

HPU’s New Law School Welcomes Inaugural Class

August 15

High Point University welcomed the inaugural class of the new Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law on August 15 with a professionalism ceremony inside Congdon Hall on HPU’s campus. The law school’s first class has over 70 students.
