About Dana Brooks
Personal injury attorney Dana Brooks is a co-founder of Fasig | Brooks in Tallahassee, Florida.
Why Dana became a lawyer. Ever since Dana was a child she has helped people stand up for themselves. “I’ve always hated bullying and since no one seemed to bully me, I figured I’d step in for others who weren’t so lucky. My natural advocacy is what eventually led me to become a trial lawyer.”
Before law school, Dana served as a clinical social worker and a family law mediator. “Although counseling people through difficult times and helping families negotiate their problems has obvious value, the advocacy piece was missing for me. I still felt like I wanted to stand up for people who were struggling with how to do that for themselves. The law provides me that opportunity.”
What drew Dana to the practice of personal injury? “I have always worked in a helping profession which is ultimately what personal injury law is all about – helping people overcome health and financial adversity they’ve experienced through no fault of their own and use that setback to build their power and actually come back stronger than they were before their injury.”
Dana’s philosophy for the practice of personal injury. Dana believes a good personal injury attorney must be as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. She holds herself out as someone clients can call about any legal question. “If I don’t know the answer, I’ll find it out or put them in touch with someone I know and trust who can help.”
The highlight of Dana’s day. “It’s the clients. Seeing the positive changes they’re able to make in their lives by taking the tragedy of a personal injury and turning it into an opportunity for growth. I’ve seen clients break the bonds of multi-generational poverty, become first-time homeowners, and send their children to college as a result of hiring us to handle their personal injury legal claims.”
Why Dana decided to launch her own firm. Dana knew that she and her partner, Jimmy Fasig, could build a better law firm. They purchased a 30-plus year old law firm they had come up in and revamped it into a cutting edge, state-of-the-art, client service based law practice.
“We have a primarily horizontal organizational structure where every person is an A+ player and an integral part of the team. Our number one goal is to create raving fans who consider us their attorneys for life.”
Dana in the community. Dana regularly speaks for various bar associations on branding and marketing for attorneys, managing work/life balance, and working with millennials in the workplace.
“I am often asked to speak about my book, ‘Functional Feminism: An Apolitical Guide to Women’s Empowerment.’” She also writes a guest legal column in the Tallahassee Women’s Magazine and was named one of the 25 Women You Need to Know by the Tallahassee Democrat.
She has received numerous honors for her charitable work and contributions across North Florida. Her personal mission is to promote and protect women and girls and she focuses her nonprofit work on organizations that further those goals.
Dana outside the office. Dana enjoys travel for business and for pleasure. “I know what I like and what I know so I’m always looking to learn that about other people. You can almost always find me on the water or enjoying the company of family and friends along with my two little dogs, Bruiser and Booker T.”
