We would like to remember the life and career of David Swenson, who was honored on the cover of Attorney at Law Magazine in January 2021. David passed away June 28, 2021, after a difficult battle with pancreatic cancer.
David joined Patterson Thuente IP as a partner and litigation practice chair in September 2020. He attended Boston College and went on to complete his master’s degree in environmental studies at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and Juris Doctor at the University of Minnesota Law School. David is survived by his wife Angela, their three young children, his parents and a brother. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 1 at Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Louis Park.
David was well-versed at Federal Circuit and all aspects of patent law. He had more than 25 years of experience as a preeminent trial and appellate advocate, had many accolades, and was active in the community. He clerked at the U.S. Court of Appeals, for Judge Pauline Newman (1997-1998) and Judge Giles Rich (1996-1997), and clerked for Judge Edward Parker (1994-1995) with the Minnesota State Court of Appeals. David also served on the Minnesota Campaign Finance & Public Disclosure Board in 2011-2012.
“Some of us had the privilege of knowing David professionally over the years. Many of us did not. But we all cherish the short time we did have to get to know David, enjoy his light-up-the-room personality, and admire his intellect and abilities as a lawyer,” said Tom Dickson, Managing Partner of Patterson Thuente IP.
David will surely be missed by his firm, clients, family, friends and our legal community! Our thoughts are with his family.
