Jay Rao has joined the Baylor Law faculty as a full-time lecturer in Baylor Law’s groundbreaking legal writing program.
Rao is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, member of the editorial board of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems and served as a research assistant to two prominent professors in the fields of contracts and mergers and acquisitions. He earned a B.B.A. with honors from the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business.
In New York, Rao practiced corporate law at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and worked in the investment banking department of Credit Suisse. Most recently, Rao has served as an adjunct professor of law at UNT Dallas College of Law while also representing two startup ventures. He has represented numerous leading financial institutions, including J.P. Morgan, Deutsche Bank, TD Bank, UniCredit Bank, Apax Partners and GSO Capital (credit affiliate of the Blackstone Group), in complex transactions and restructurings.
Rao’s primary area of responsibility at Baylor Law will be teaching transactional drafting and practice in the innovative Legal Analysis, Research, and Communications program, which emphasizes and develops the critical skills necessary to successfully engage in a transactional practice, including the ability to analyze commercial issues and craft legal documents in a business environment.
