Jeffrey Phillips and Nasser Abujbarah: Vision and Implementation

“Jeffery is the visionary of the firm and my job is to execute that vision,” says Nasser Abujbarah, managing partner of Phillips Law Group, PC. The Jeffrey referred to is founding partner, Jeffrey Phillips, who created the firm 33 years ago.

Of Abujbarah, Phillips says, “Nasser has been the unlock I have always looked for at this firm. We speak the same language and our goals are aligned. We both want to provide the best possible service to all our clients while continuing our meteoric expansion, it’s a great partnership.”

Since joining the team 16 years ago, Abujbarah has risen from attorney to a position overseeing the whole operation. And they have serious plans for corporate expansion in the immediate and distant future.

Under Phillips’ guidance, the firm has recovered more than $2 billion for their clients and handled more than 185,000 cases across Arizona, California, Utah and various other states. His focus in continuing to expand the firm is based on a commitment to innovation across all operations while maintaining an equally strong commitment to the firm, the industry and the community. While managing day-to-day operations, Abujbarah remains active in strengthening internal systems, driving efficiency in all departments, and integrating AI and technology.

Each man is an experienced and award-winning trial attorney committed to maintaining the balance of a proven legacy with the demands of constant innovation and their teamwork has built an enviable record in personal injury.

“We talk every day, even on the weekends,” Phillips says. “I enjoy Nasser’s company and having an integrator who can execute on my vision for PLG has allowed me to focus on the big picture and ensuring this firm is set for the next three decades.”

Their partnership is based on mutual trust, understanding and especially communication. For example, Phillips, a busy professional, but also a dedicated family man, takes his kids to school. Before 9 a.m. he and Abujbarah are on the phone reviewing cases, discussing business needs, setting quarterly and yearly goals and planning the future of the organization.

“I understand what he wants and where he wants his firm to be. And I just kind of take it from there.  After that, Jeffrey really does let me do my thing,” Abujbarah says.

The partners’ commitment to frequent and open communication extends to the attorneys and staff. Abujbarah has served in various roles from intake to case management, so he is well-versed in the total workings of the organization. When someone comes to him with a challenge, he has been on the ground floor facing that or similar obstacles.

“I’ve done everything,” he says. He meets with the attorneys and staff at their office or station, maintains an open-door policy, and gives his cell phone number to all employees. “We must be doing something right, because our employee retention is through the roof,” he says.

Phillips says, “Teamwork is incredibly vital to how I have positioned this law firm. I expect our staff to treat each other with kindness and respect. For the last four years we have been named one of the best places to work in America. I am proud of the culture at our firm and what we have created, everyone has each other’s back and the results speak for themselves.”

They Who Work Hardest Win

“They Who Work Hardest Wins” is the firm’s motto, which is a guiding force and not just a phrase for an annual report. “There is no substitute for hard work. Co-workers respect those who put in the effort, go that ‘extra mile,’ and who pick up the slack when necessary. And they’re not going to do that unless they respect the leadership that works just as hard. Jeffrey and I believe in leading by example,” Abujbarah says.

“This is a tough business and everyone has to carry their own weight,” Phillips says.

Running a personal injury firm has enormous challenges, but challenges with incredible rewards. Abujbarah says. “Every day I remind myself that these folks, these clients of mine, chose me to represent them at the worst part of their lives and that I get to act as a shield and the sword on their behalf. it is such a powerful feeling, an incredible feeling, and that’s what really gets me through even the toughest day.”

That work ethic and commitment to excellence has attracted some of the most seasoned trial lawyers in the country, which provides a real edge when going up against large conglomerates and organizations with often unlimited funds and resources. “The culture of our firm and the work ethic we have created retains the top performers. No attorney and no legal firm will ever outwork our people. Ever,” Abujbarah says.

AI and the Closed Universe

Abujbarah has focused much of his attention during the past three years on developing and implementing the firm’s case management software. “Jeff is the ultimate numbers guy, and I wanted to make sure this software program was built specifically for him, which is to say ultimately for the needs of our staff and clients,” Abujbarah says.

When anyone logs in, they have their own unique homepage providing all the information they need. Clients can see all the information about their case; paralegals and attorneys can see everything they need to stay up-to-date on the maintenance of their cases.

The firm’s metrics are built around client success and their ability to ensure the attorneys and staff can communicate with their clients is key to that success.

Phillips and Abujbarah decided to incorporate AI technology into their system, but unlike businesses relying on Chat GPT or Claude, they designed a closed-universe technology specifically for Phillips Law Group. The attorneys and staff feed in tens of thousands of documents, pages, medical records and so on. The AI technology synthesizes the information based only on the firm’s records so their research is not ‘infected’ by extraneous or even inaccurate or false information that AI can sometimes provide.

“We’re proud of our system. It’s a great way to fine tune the organization. It also sets us apart and certainly helps our clients get faster, bigger resolutions,” Abujbarah says.

The firm’s AI system is used throughout case processing from analyzing, document preparation, putting documents in the right place, and in virtually every step of the way AI is in the background.

“We deploy it everywhere, but, and this is significant, AI can’t stand in front of a jury of 12 citizens to tell them they should award hundreds of millions of dollars to a victim. The ‘magic sauce’ in our approach is the way in which we combine technology with real lawyering,” Phillips says.

Abujbarah agrees. “We bill on the contingency model, so our clients expect, and deserve, efficiency in what we do. Our AI system is a tremendous benefit with that, but to resolve issues, speak to clients, cross-examine witnesses, address judges and juries you need the human element. Technology will never be and can never be a substitute for the human element. And that’s where we excel.”

The Phillips Foundation

Phillips and Abujbarah believe in giving back to the community and the most obvious example of that commitment is the Phillips Foundation. During 2025 the Phillips team donated more than 2,500 hours of volunteer services, donated more than $750,000 in total community giving, and invested significant volunteer time in various causes, institutions, and events.

The Phillips Law Group commitment to its community is such that the firm pays the employees to volunteer their time and energy, allowing them to leave during the day to honor their commitments.

In the past, these have included sponsorships of fundraisers benefiting LGBTQ+ youth, justice projects, autism awareness, foster care, food banks, animal welfare, legal aid, Special Olympics, first responder training, underserved children and more. Of note, billboards the firm sponsors have helped to locate more than 50 missing persons.

The founder and the managing partner team-up has no plans for slowing down. Abujbarah says, “I’m blessed. I’m blessed to have a guy who I work for who not only trusts me, but we share the same vision.”

“We want this law firm to be the biggest in the country. And we’re taking all the steps to get there.” Phillips says, “Our goal is simple – to continue our rise, to become the largest firm on the West Coast, and to continue our unique mix of impeccable trial lawyers and cutting-edge technology.”
