The Minnesota American Indian Bar Association (MAIBA) held its 26th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at The Meadows at Mystic Lake July 21, 2022.
MAIBA is a nonprofit and affinity bar association that consists of Native American attorneys, law students, officers of tribal courts, and welcomes non-Indian practitioners who are interested in Native issues. The event is MAIBA’s primary fundraising event for the scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to Native American law students at Minnesota’s three law schools. In addition to its commitment of supporting Native law students, MAIBA seeks to educate the public about the legal issues affecting Native people and Tribal governments – promoting justice and effective legal representation of all Indian people.
This year’s tournament raised a record amount of over $26,000! All proceeds go directly to the scholarship fund. Twenty-four teams competed in the scramble and the weather was perfect. In addition to the golf team participants, 38 sponsors donated at the platinum, gold, and silver levels. In November each year, MAIBA celebrates Native American Heritage Month and holds its Annual Fall Feast, which is a program and dinner where the scholarship recipients are recognized and honored.
MAIBA would like to thank the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community for hosting, as well as the volunteers, sponsors, and golfers for supporting this year’s tournament. It was a record-breaking success!
