Ninth Annual Minority Judges Reception

Chief Judge John R. Tunheim, Judge Wilhelmina M. Wright, Judge Michael J. Davis, and Judges of the District of Minnesota hosted the Ninth Annual Minority Judges Reception July 15 at the Diana E. Murphy U.S. Courthouse, Outdoor Plaza. The event is a social gathering to highlight the growing diversity of the state, federal, and tribal judges in Minnesota and was attended by roughly 250 this year. This year’s reception included a recognition of Senator Tina Smith for her work on the Juneteenth national holiday legislation. Remarks from Sukanja Momsen, Roxy Gonzalez, Arielle Wagner, Mike Dittberner, Frank Aba-Onu and Amy Taber were made on behalf of their respective affinity bar associations. Delicious food was prepared by the caterer Pimento Jamaican Kitchen of Minneapolis. Their chef, Okkoy Graham, was made a U.S. citizen June 30, 2021 in a private ceremony done by Chief Judge John R. Tunheim. The reception was cosponsored by Judges of the District of Minnesota and the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association’s Diversity Committee, Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers, Minnesota Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Minnesota Women Lawyers, Somali American Bar Association, and the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association.
