Marcia Campagna, MS, CCC-SLP, COM, brings over two decades of clinical excellence to the legal arena. As the founder of Best Speech Therapy, Campagna has built a career around helping patients in need of support to maintain their independence. Her deep understanding of human communication disorders, coupled with advanced credentials in orofacial myology, uniquely qualifies her as an expert witness in cases involving speech, language, swallowing, voice and myofunctional disorders.
“I work with patients from cradle to grave,” she says. “My oldest patient is 102 and my youngest three weeks old.”
That breadth of clinical exposure is more than a professional talking point—it’s the foundation of the expert insight she now provides in legal cases ranging from medical malpractice and insurance disputes to personal injury and educational matters.
While her clinical practice remains at the core of her career, Campagna has carved out a growing niche as an expert witness—an evolution she admits was unplanned.
“A lawyer kept calling and I didn’t want to pick up,” she recalls with a laugh. “I thought, I don’t know who is upset with me, but I don’t want to deal with it.” When she finally returned the call, she discovered the attorney wanted her to weigh in on a criminal case, not as a translator, but as an expert who could accurately interpret a short audio recording in Spanish. Ultimately, the case never went to trial, but Campagna’s help still proved invaluable to settling.
The experience opened a new professional door. Since that first case, Campagna has been called on to provide expert testimony in medical malpractice and educational cases.
A certified speech-language pathologist (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Campagna is also a certified orofacial myologist (COM) through the International Association of Orofacial Myology. This additional specialization allows her to assess and treat disorders related to tongue thrust, abnormal breathing patterns, swallowing difficulties and jaw instability—conditions that frequently intersect with orthodontic, surgical or injury-related cases.
Campagna’s clinical practice remains active, giving her real-time insight into the evolving landscape of speech therapy. She works with children on developmental language delays, with teens struggling with lisps, and with adults recovering from jaw surgery. This constant engagement with patient care ensures that her legal testimony is not only grounded in academic theory but also informed by up-to-date clinical reality.
“I never sought this out, but I’m glad I answered that call,” she says. “Serving as an expert witness has become an extension of the work I love—helping people be heard.”
Recognizing the unique role expert witnesses play in court proceedings, she has made it a point to study the craft. “I’m one of those perpetual learners,” she says. “I made it a priority to learn as much as I could about being an expert witness so that when I am called upon, I can provide the very best testimony and written reports.”
Campagna’s deep clinical know-ledge, combined with her commitment to ongoing education and professionalism, makes her a trusted voice in the courtroom. Whether in a hospital room or on the witness stand, her mission remains the same—to advocate for clarity, communication and care.
